The goal is to progress through over 100 short, self-contained levels while recovering fragments of the protagonist’s lost memories.
The game emphasizes precision controls, quick restarts, and compact level design.
If the player is defeated, referred to as being rebooted", the level restarts from the beginning.
Several assist options, such as a triple jump and automatic stomp, can be enabled to reduce difficulty.
For advanced players, the game includes a speedrun mode, a hardcore mode that resets progress on a single hit, and an "insane" mode without saving.
Additional features include an autosave system, a built-in speedrun timer, hidden rooms, and optional achievements.
The game is compatible with Game Boy Color hardware, the ModRetro Chromatic, and most compatible clone handhelds.
About Game Boy Color
The Game Boy Color (1998) added a color screen to the original Game Boy formula while remaining backwards compatible with the entire existing cartridge library. Its colorful, semi-transparent cartridge shells make it a visually distinct platform for shelf collectors, and several late-cycle exclusives — released just before the Game Boy Advance took over — are notably harder to find complete today.
Gamevaro tracks Self Simulated for Game Boy Color with separate market values for loose, complete-in-box (CIB) and factory-sealed copies, sourced from real eBay sales. Prices also vary by region — PAL, NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases of the same game often sell for different amounts due to print run sizes and regional collector demand.
Adding Self Simulated to a Gamevaro collection takes seconds — search by title or scan the box barcode, and the app fills in cover art, release details and current pricing automatically. This GBC release dates back to 2025.

Market insights
Rarity & condition
Self Simulated has a steady sales history on the tracked marketplaces, meaning enough copies circulate to establish a reliable market price.
Condition matters a lot for collector value: loose (cartridge/disc only), complete-in-box (CIB, with original packaging and manual) and factory-sealed copies are tracked separately because the price gap between them can be significant, especially for older releases.
