Gameplay is expanded with new titles, elemental move variations, additional Unison Attacks, new techniques, and a full set of hidden ougis for nearly every character.

The PS2 version also fixes numerous bugs from the GameCube release, adds tougher boss behaviors, introduces new events and side stories, and includes a functional casino with new rewards.

The Monster Collection grows with new enemies, the Forbidden Book dungeon is expanded and accessible earlier, and there are various mechanical adjustments such as faster Unison gauge filling.

The later ports, some called Tales of Symphonia: Remastered , are based on the PS2 version and only add higher definition graphics.
