The base version is upgraded through different digital downloads, adding new modes and videos (1.11 - December 2007) and a much larger update (2.0 - March 2008) with new cars, circuits, modes, events and different features.

Since 2.0, the game is referred to as Gran Turismo 5: Prologue - Spec II .

That version was updated once more in April 2008 as 2.10 with more features.

These updates are free to download, but in some countries the updated version is actually the retail one.

PAL regions received the 2.0 version while North American received 2.10 by default.
